Experience Extreme History with Carillon Historical Park's Summer Camps

Carillon Historical Park will offer three History Summer Camps starting in July. Children ages 6- to 16-years-old are invited to relive history this summer with Fight for the Right, Settler Survival Camp and Extreme Travel camps.

Fight for the Right allows campers to defend America in the War of 1812, our second war for independence. After enlisting, soldiers can participate in the necessary duties of 1812, such as drilling, hiking, cooking and setting up camp. Soldiers will make their own haversacks, flags and food. Campers will discover Ohio’s role in the war and how men and women made a difference marching through Ohio to defend our nation. Fight for the Right will be held July 11-15, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Children ages 10 to 16 are welcome to attend. Soldiers can experience the War of 1812 for $150. Snacks will be provided in addition to lunch on Friday. Registration deadline is July 1.

Settler Survival Camp permits campers to experience the Miami Valley from a pioneer’s perspective. Settlers will engage in everyday activities and chores that enabled settlers to survive on the wild frontier. Campers will learn about pioneer firearms, hearth cooking, textiles and gardening. After finishing chores, everyone will share in pioneer fun, music, treats and games. Settler Survival Camp will be held July 18-22, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Children ages 8 to 12 are welcome to attend. Settlers can become experts in survival for $100. Registration deadline is July 1.

Extreme Travel transports campers through time. Discover how Americans traveled by road, canal and air over the last two centuries. Time travelers will experience transportation’s history with hands-on activities, such as packing an 1830s Conestoga Wagon for a journey west, launching a hot-air balloon and eating traditional railroad fare. Extreme Travel camp will be held July 18-22, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Children ages 6 to 10 are welcome to attend. Campers can become time travelers for $100. Registration deadline is July 1.
