Carillon Historical Park Welcomes New Faces

Angela Niemiec and Daniel Schlegel have joined Carillon Historical Park’s interpretive staff.

After reviewing the applications of over 60 candidates from nine states, Angela and Danny were selected to be the Park’s Lead Interpreters. Both Angela and Danny will work full-time to bring the history represented within the Park to life throughout the exhibit buildings and on the grounds. They will assist in expanding the Park’s volunteer interpretive corps and implement interpretation and programming throughout the entire year.

Angela comes to the staff highly skilled in open hearth and wood stove cooking, food preservation, animal care, heirloom gardening and fiber arts.

After graduating with an honors BA in anthropology from Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Fla., she began interpreting history for numerous museums.

She came to the Park from Littleton, Colo., where she interpreted an 1860s farm, an 1864 schoolhouse and an 1890s farm. Angela also has extensive museum experience at the St. Petersburg Historical Museum in St. Petersburg, Fla. and Pinellas County’s Heritage Village in Largo, Fla.

Since joining the Park’s staff, Angela has been facilitating Carillon Historical Park’s 19th century hearth cooking programs. "I am thrilled to have the opportunity to become involved with Carillon Historical Park at a time when so many new and exciting things are going on," she says.

Danny brings his passion about history and anthropology to the Park.

Danny is a graduate of Kent State University, where he majored in history. Since graduating, Danny has had several opportunities to display his knowledge of history. His museum experiences in artifact accessioning, facility oversight, visitor services and guided tours will be an asset to the Park.

At the Kelso House Museum in Brimfield, Ohio, Danny managed collections, designed museum exhibits, interacted with the visiting public and developed a successful programming initiative funded by the Ohio Humanities Council.

Danny has also been interpreting our Tavern Dinners since his arrival. "I am really excited to bring what I know to Carillon Historical Park and have the chance to experience so many new things," he says.

Mandy Barga also joined the Park’s team as Communications Manager.

Mandy comes to us from The University of Dayton’s communication and language programs. She brings with her many experiences in public relations from The Children’s Medical Center of Dayton and South Community, Inc.

"I am pleased to be a part of the team at Carillon Historical Park, and I am excited to use my communication skills to deepen awareness of our region’s rich history," she says.
